George Shumsky

George has extensive jury trial experience in both State and Federal courts. He has been lead counsel on subrogation claims in the states of Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Alaska, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming.

Eric Hanson

Eric C. Hanson

Eric has been admitted to the Washington State Bar since 1996 and is a member of both of the State’s Federal District Courts. Additionally, Eric is admitted to practice in Oregon (2008) and Alaska (2010). Since 2011, he has been admitted to United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Education

In 1996, Eric received his law degree from Seattle University School of Law.
Eric graduated from the University of San Francisco with a BA in English in 1990.

Professional Experience

Eric joined Shumsky & Backman in 2015 after 18 years with a national subrogation firm. Eric routinely represents national and foreign insurers and handles all types of subrogation claims – from negligence and product liability to complex multi-party wildfire litigation. Eric has successfully resolved difficult and complex cases in a variety of jurisdictions. Eric works closely with his clients to creatively and aggressively pursue the claims in order to maximize their subrogation recoveries.

Julie Lycklama

Julie Lycklama

Julie Lycklama has been with the firm since 2010 in the position of lead paralegal. She earned her associates in applied arts and sciences with a major in paralegal studies from Clark College in 1995. In 2009, Julie passed the national Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam.

Julie’s professional experience includes subrogation, personal injury, product liability, insurance defense and construction defect cases. She is experienced in all aspects of case management, document management, discovery, and trial preparation.

As a leader in the regional paralegal community, Julie has held the positions of President, Vice President, and Board Director with the Oregon Paralegal Association. She is also a member of the National Federation of Paralegal Associations.

In her free time Julie enjoys scrapbooking, sewing and cooking.


Jeanette Wirth

Jeanette Wirth

Jeanette Wirth has been with the firm since 2016. She earned her Associate of Applied Science degree in Paralegal studies in 2005 from Western Business College in Vancouver, Washington.

Jeanette’s professional experience includes subrogation, probate, family, criminal, and education law. She is experienced in drafting documents, trial preparation, discovery, file management and working with clients.

Jeanette relocated from Oklahoma to be closer to family, including her new granddaughter. She enjoys crafting, quilting and spending time with family and friends.


Katie Sanders

Katie Sanders

Katie Sanders has been a Legal Assistant with the firm since 2000. She earned her Associate in Arts Degree from Clark College in 2005.

Katie’s professional experience has exclusively been focused on insurance subrogation. She is experienced in transcription, case management, file maintenance and trial preparation.

Katie currently works part time, and spends the majority of her time caring for her husband and three beautiful children. She also enjoys photography, cooking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
